 Description:  Press release: The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is hosting a Legion of Honor Medal ceremony for local World War II Veterans at the James R. Thompson Center in Chicago at 11 a.m., Tuesday July 21, 2009. The French Consul General will present the Legion of Honor Medal to six Illinois Veterans and five other Veterans from throughout the Midwest (1 from Iowa, 2 from Indiana, 1 from Kentucky and 1 from Wisconsin) who helped liberate France during World War II. The Legion of Honor Medal is the highest honor that France can bestow upon those who have accomplished remarkable deeds for France.
