Research at a glance

 Volume/Number:  Vol. 1, No. 3 April 2006
 Issuing Agency:
Description:  This issue of Research at a Glance is a quick fact sheet summarizing findings from Research Bulletin, A profile of Class 4 felony offenders sentenced to prison in Illinois, by ICJIA research analysts. This data is consistent with previous research indicating that Class 4 offenders have lengthy criminal backgrounds and relatively short stays in prison. Examination of these trends is useful to justice practitioners and policymakers as they determine whether incarceration is appropriate for this population of offenders.

Research Bulletin

 Volume/Number:  Vol. 5, No. 6 January 2007
 Issuing Agency:
Description:  I llinois began to experience a decline in commitments to the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) Juvenile Division in the late 1990s. While this was a positive sign, there were other trends of concern. The number of female commitments to the IDOC Juvenile Division jumped 65 percent between state fiscal years 1994 and 2004. And black juveniles were committed at increasing rates, raising questions of disproportionate minority confinement. These trends and data may assist juvenile justice system policymakers and practitioners in developing more informed intervention policies and activities.
