Press release: In 2020, there were 2,944 fatalities due to opioid overdose in Illinois, an average of eight Illinois resident deaths per day. This represents a 32.7% increase from 2019 (Fig. 1) and is 2.3 times higher than motor vehicle fatalities and 2.2 times higher than homicides.
