Illinois continues to implement a program to protect and restore groundwater. The Illinois Groundwater Protection Act, adopted in 1987, established an Interagency Coordinating Committee on Groundwater to report biennially to the Governor and General Assembly on groundwater quality and quantity, as well as the states enforcement efforts.
