| 1042: | | Title: | | | | | Volume/Number: | 2009 October | | | | Issuing Agency: | | | | | Description: | Countryside Lake Association (CLA) started a Lake Stewardship program in 2001 following the Lake Water Quality Study completed by the Lake County Health Department Lake Management Unit (LCHDLMU) in 2000. The LMU study identified Countryside Lake as hyper-eutrophic citing phosphorous as the limiting nutrient. The CLA stewardship program focused its attention on lake water inlet quality to determine whether any of these stormwater drains represented a significant phosphorous input to the lake. The program began with grab sample collections at the major lake inlets in 2002 and 2003 and progressed to ISCO automatic composite water samplers and ultimately to selected ISCO sequential samplers. The early findings documented the baseline water quality for each inlet. | | | | Date Created: | 11 19 2009 | | | | Agency ID: | Financial Assistance Agreement Number 3190612 | | | | ISL ID: | 000000041044 Original UID: 21105 FIRST WORD: Countryside | |

| 1044: | | Title: | | | | | Volume/Number: | 2009 September | | | | Issuing Agency: | | | | | Description: | In October 2004, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) issued a completed Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Study for Salt Creek. From this study, the Illinois EPA developed TMDL allocations for various pollutants. The report concluded that significant reductions in biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and ammonia would be necessary in order for the Illinois Dissolved Oxygen (DO) standards to be achieved in Salt Creek during low-flow, warm conditions, and that the potential removal of one or more existing dams along lower Salt Creek could offer significant water quality improvements. Since the publication of the TMDL report, affected communities, municipal wastewater treatment plant operators, and interested environmental organizations have joined together to form the DuPage River Salt Creek Workgroup (DRSCW). The mission of the DRSCW is to study the East and West Branches DuPage River and Salt Creek watersheds in order to gain a better understanding of environmental impairments that are leading to poor water quality and impacting aquatic life. The initial focus of the DRSCW, for this project, was to develop a computer model that would accurately reflect low-flow, warm stream conditions, particularly DO, along Salt Creek, from which alternatives for improving DO concentrations could be developed. While working on this task it became apparent that better environmental monitoring data were needed. At this point the focus of the Workgroup expanded to include design and implementation of water quality monitoring studies that would generate sound scientific data. | | | | Date Created: | 09 28 2009 | | | | Agency ID: | | | | | ISL ID: | 000000041046 Original UID: 21107 FIRST WORD: Stream | |
| 1045: | | Title: | | | | | Volume/Number: | 2007 August 16 | | | | Issuing Agency: | | | | | Description: | This Chloride Usage Education and Reduction Program Study addresses the quantity of chloride applied in the watersheds of Salt Creek and the East and West Branches of DuPage River. These watersheds are located in northeastern Illinois, centered in DuPage County. Portions of the watersheds also extend into Cook, Will and Kane Counties. In response to the TMDLs adopted for their watersheds, a group of communities, environmental organizations, publicly owned treatment works and other concerned parties came together to form the DuPage River Salt Creek Workgroup (DRSCW). The DRSCW appointed a Chloride Subcommittee, under whose direction this study was initiated to evaluate current road salting practices and to recommend alternative practices for the reduction of chloride loading to the watersheds, to help comply with the chloride TMDLs. | | | | Date Created: | 08 15 2007 | | | | Agency ID: | | | | | ISL ID: | 000000041047 Original UID: 21108 FIRST WORD: Chloride | |

| 1057: | | Title: | | | | | Volume/Number: | 2007 July | | | | Issuing Agency: | | | | | Description: | Over the 89-year history of Lake Hillsboro, approximately 36,500 tons of soil has been eroded from the shoreline areas. These shoreline erosion estimates equate to an average annual loading of approximately 410 tons/year. The total tons of delivered soil were calculated using a dry unit weight of 100 pounds per cubic-ft for undisturbed, native soil densities. The estimated loading to Lake Hillsboro based on the 2007 shoreline survey was estimated by extending the eroded bank into the lake at a projected slope of 3:1 (3 foot horizontal to 1 foot vertical) to form a typical triangular end area. Then, the length of the eroded shoreline in linear feet was multiplied by the projected end area for each degree of classification of erosion. | | | | Date Created: | 07 25 2007 | | | | Agency ID: | | | | | ISL ID: | 000000041059 Original UID: 21118 FIRST WORD: Illinois | |
