- The Illinois Department of Transportation will partner with the Chicago Police Department, Illinois State Police, Cook County Sheriffs Office, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to inform motorists of numerous stepped-up traffic enforcement details during this holiday season. A news conference will be held on Wednesday, December 18 at 10:00 a.m. at the Chicago Police Department at 1718 S. State St. in Chicago to inform motorists that impaired driving or failure to buckle up will get you arrested or ticketed. Officials will also discuss the most recent Illinois drunk driving fatality statistics. Illinois motorists will see this life-saving effort in their communities and around the state from now through the first weekend of 2014.
