  • The Illinois Department of Transportation announces today that weather permitting, construction work on IL 2 (South Main Street) in Rockford will begin on Monday, September 10, 2012. William Charles Construction Company is starting the $13.3 million project to reconstruct South Main Street from north of Harrison Avenue/Springfield Road to Beltline Road south of US 20. The 2 mile section of roadway will be reconstructed with the project scheduled for completion in November of 2013.
