  • The not-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 7.3 percent in August 2011 compared to 7.8 percent in August 2010. The last time the August unemployment rate was equal to or lower was in 2008 when it was 5.4 percent. This was the 13th consecutive month the rate was lower than one year ago.
