- August unemployment rates fell in 11 of 12 Illinois metro areas compared to last year, according to preliminary data released today by the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES). The not seasonally adjusted data (NSA) compares August 2011 to August 2010. The largest declines were in: Rockford (-1.6 points to 13.1 percent), Danville (-1.5 points to 10.5 percent), Peoria (-1.5 points to 8.4 percent); and, Kankakee-Bradley (-1.3 points to 11.5 percent). The Chicago-Joliet-Naperville metro rate increased +0.7 point to 10.4 percent, its first increase since May 2010 and its highest August level since 1983.
