- CHIEF JUSTICE KILBRIDE delivered the judgment of the court, with opinion. Justices Freeman, Thomas, Garman, Karmeier, Burke, and Theis concurred in the judgment and opinion. In 1995, a gang-related shooting occurred in Chicago. One man died, and this defendant was convicted of his murder. Another man survived the shooting incident, and, for this, Amigon was convicted for aggravated battery with a firearm. This victim was rendered a quadriplegic because of damage to his spinal cord.
