- Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) Director Catherine Shannon will speak at a press conference regarding VESSA, a labor law that provides workplace protections to victims of domestic or sexual violence. VESSA, the Victims Economic Security and Safety Act, aims to provide employed victims with the financial independence necessary to leave abusive situations by entitling them to up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave during any 12-month period, without fear of losing their jobs, and added protections from workplace discrimination.
