  • When most people think of the Illinois Lottery, they think of the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity it offers to win big. But players arent the only winners when it comes to the Illinois Lottery. Our biggest winners are Illinois public school children, who are the beneficiaries of the Lotterys profits. I am proud to report that in fiscal year 2005 (July 1, 2004 through June 30, 2005) the Illinois Lottery set records in both sales and education contributions. Gross revenue for the year grew by nearly eight percent ($134 million) to nearly $1.84 billion, and the Lottery turned its largest profit yet contributing a record-breaking $614 million to the Common School Fund, which supports K-12 public education in Illinois.
