  • Appellate citation: 387 Ill. App. 3d 322. CHIEF JUSTICE FITZGERALD delivered the judgment of the court, with opinion. Justices Freeman, Thomas, Kilbride, Garman, Karmeier, and Burke concurred in the judgment and opinion. This defendant was a Lake County jail officer. As such, he could become eligible for retirement benefits from the Sheriffs Law Enforcement Program. He retired in 2003, but the amount of credit which he claimed was challenged as having been falsely extended because of documents which he provided to the sheriff that asserted an earlier date for his deputization than was in fact the case. These documents, made in defendants own name and under his own authority, contained false information on the basis of which
