  • Press release: The Principal Chief of the Sac and Fox Nation in Oklahoma and a direct descendant of Black Hawk will speak at the Apple River Fort Interpretive Center in Elizabeth, Illinois at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 31. The public is invited to attend. The theme of the visit is Unity, which in the Sac language is Kimachipena. Chief Thurman will visit a temporary exhibit on the Sac and Fox and also recognize the reopening of Apple River Fort, which was closed during the winter due to state budget reductions.
