  • Press release: #1 Spectator Sport in the Country Supports Illinois Mission To Save Lives Statewide. Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Secretary Gary Hannig along with Director of Traffic Safety Michael Stout will present the Traffic Safety Distinguished Partner Award to NASCAR and Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race on Saturday, July 11. This comes a year after IDOT first announced that the Department was teaming up with NASCAR and Chicagoland Speedway in a unique, first of its kind, traffic safety partnership. Through this partnership, IDOT, NASCAR and Chicagoland Speedway established a pilot program to promote the Buckle Up America campaign and the Friends Dont Let Friends Drive Drunk campaign, as part of the annual NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series weekend of racing at the Speedway to encourage safe driving.
