- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) published revisions in the FederalRegister to the ambient nitrogen dioxide (NO2) monitoring requirements , effective March 14,2013, requiring the establishment of near-road NO2 network between January 2014 and January2017. These new minimum monitoring requirements for NO2 are in support of a one-hour NO2National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) and require installation of near-road NO2monitoring stations at locations where peak hourly NO2 concentrations are expected to occurwithin the near-road environment in large urban areas. Illinois EPA is required to establish twosuch near-road NO2 monitors.
