  • The Illinois Health Information Exchange (ILHIE) today joined NorthShore University Health System (NorthShore) in announcing that NorthShore will now be able to exchange patient information such as diagnoses and medications securely and in real time with 14 long term health care facilities. This will be achieved through a web-based, encrypted and secure messaging system that is fully compliant with the Electronic Health Records requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The new system is designed to lead to improved health outcomes for patients and should result in lower rates of hospital readmissions.
